Dice Grading Guide

Every handmade die is a unique creation, and slight variations are part of the charm.

To help collectors and players understand the quality and artistry of each piece, we use a detailed grading system inspired by luxury standards—similar to how diamonds are evaluated.

Each die is graded across two main categories:

Color Grade

This rating reflects the visual artistry of the die—its color balance, layering, clarity, and overall aesthetic impact.

Masterwork

Color is vivid, expertly layered, and balanced with exceptional harmony. Inclusions (glitter, flakes, symbols) are well-positioned and crystal clear. The highest standard of visual presentation.

Exquisite

Color is vibrant and cohesive with only minimal visual variation. Any imperfections are subtle and only noticeable upon close inspection.

Excellent

Color is strong and appealing with only minor inconsistencies in swirl placement, clarity, or glitter distribution. Still visually striking and collectible.

Very Good

Coloration shows some visual quirks such as minor clouding, swirl imbalance, or slightly uneven inclusion spread. Still attractive and fully suitable for display or play.

Good

Color is slightly inconsistent, with noticeable layering quirks or glitter clumping. Overall appeal remains intact but lacks the level of perfection of higher graded sets.

Fair

Marked by bolder inconsistencies or less harmonious colorwork. Still beautiful and one-of-a-kind, but more unique and often character-rich.

Imperfect / Experimental

Intended as a secondary-quality piece. Includes color bleeding, muddiness, or significant visual imbalance. Ideal only for casual use or collectors of experimental works.

Cut & Finish Grade

This rating assesses the craftsmanship of the mold, polish, edges, inking, and overall physical appeal.

Masterwork

Flawless polish and edge definition. No visible mold lines, bubbles, or sanding marks. Inking is crisp, consistent, and perfectly applied. Absolute top-tier showcase quality.

Exquisite

Nearly perfect surface with only faint sanding or mold marks and/or minor polishing variation under close inspection. Inking is consistent and crisp.

Excellent

Slight imperfections such as faint mold lines, subtle sanding marks, slightly uneven faces, or softer edges. Inking may have minor variations but still presents cleanly.

Very Good

Moderate visible flaws like mold marks, sanding marks, uneven faces, or slight ink inconsistencies. Does not significantly impact playability or durability.

Good

Clearly handmade with quirks like nicked edges, off-center inclusions, or experimental finishes. Ideal for those who love character in their dice.

Fair

Clearly handmade with multiple cosmetic quirks like soft edges, off-center inclusions, sanding or mold marks, uneven faces, or experimental finishes. Still functional and full of personality.

Imperfect / Experimental

More pronounced mold issues, rough sanding, uneven faces, air bubbles, or distorted features. Often offered at a significant discount. Best suited for casual play or collectors of experimental pieces.

How Is Overall Grade Determined?

A product's Overall Grade is an average assessment reflecting the set’s combined Color and Cut / Finish grading scores.

It provides a quick summary of the set’s quality while honoring its handmade charm.

Here’s how it works:

  • If both categories are high (e.g. Exquisite Color + Excellent Finish), the Overall Grade may be Exquisite.
  • If one category is stronger than the other (e.g. Excellent Color + Very Good Finish), the Overall Grade may fall between (Very Good to Excellent) depending on balance and visual appeal.

  • In sets where dice may vary slightly, the grade reflects the average across the entire set, not a single die.

Why Grade At All?

Because every die is handmade, each one is unique. Grading helps:

  • Provide transparency about quality
  • Celebrate craftsmanship (even with charming quirks!)
  • Ensure buyers know what to expect — whether collecting or playing

No matter the grade, each set is crafted with magic and care.
